Our History

The Journey to Date

asBuilt has it’s roots firmly in construction. While we love to do the ‘not yet’ possible with clever technology, constructability is always front-of-mind. Lots has certainly changed over the years, but our practical application of leading-edge digitisation and an unrelenting drive to help industry transform remains true.
  • 2012 – asBuilt Opens Doors
David Burton starts asBuilt (then called Latzero) with a plan to provide more certain design and construction outcomes to the industry. Having started in construction as a Quantity Surveyor – and after completing his MBA at Auckland University and his thesis on the topic of: More Efficient Construction Management – he’s keen to harness digitisation in his own business.
  • 2014 – Simon Mobley Joins
Having met on a collaborative project, Dave and Simon realise their complementary skillsets. Mechanical Engineer, Simon Mobley, joins Dave to focus on BIM and digital engineering. Simon’s technical prowess soon see asBuilt fast earning a reputation for excellence in digital engineering services and project deployments.
  • 2015 - 2017 A Software Development Journey starts
Realising the power of a digital platform to ingest and integrate BIM data – asBuilt starts building software solutions for internal workflow management. This process is honed, built on and refined until Vault is born in 2017. Vault is asBuilt’s 3D Spatial Intelligence Platform developed to help asset owners unlock the power of their digital twin.
  • 2017 asBuilt Australia Pty Ltd opens doors
With opportunities opening up across the Tasman, asBuilt is able to export it’s digital engineering expertise and deliver projects for the iconic MCG, WestConnex and Manilla Viaduct amongst others. Today asBuilt have offices in Sydney and Melbourne.
  • 2018 asBuilt becomes a Microsoft ISV partner
On the back of good success with the Vault platform and an obvious passion for digital transformation – Microsoft elevate asBuilt to ISV partner status.
  • 2019 asBuilt deliver inaugural Connected projects
In collaboration with Microsoft, Spark and NZ Strong, asBuilt deliver New Zealand’s first ever Connected Construction site at Wynyard 100. This site integrates IoT technology to deliver live insights – onsite and showcases best practice for optimising construction delivery. The same year they also undertake the digitisation of New Zealand’s largest hospital to enable the future of Connected Hospitals and healthcare.
  • 2020 asBuilt elevate their brand and grow their Team
Continuing as an enabler of digital transformation, asBuilt work hard on vision, purpose and values and form a new brand platform. The brand encapsulates their strong Services and emerging Software business. A new website is launched, their leadership team expands with new talent and expertise, ready for further growth.
